Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has formally left the National Police Service (NPS), bringing to a close his career in uniform.

Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed the decision, saying Samidoh was now free to pursue his ambitions. He officially ceased being a police officer after years of service in both the regular police and the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).
Samidoh’s police career had recently been clouded by controversy, ranging from his marital drama to a viral video of him chanting the opposition-linked “wantam” slogan, which angered senior officers and prompted a transfer to the ASTU.

Court documents revealed that he had been granted official clearance to travel to the US for performances, even as police chiefs pressed claims against him.

While Gachagua urged fans to boycott their shows, Kindiki defended the artistes, insisting they were only seeking government support to improve the creative industry.
Gachagua and Samidoh eventually reunited in the US during the politician’s tour as Samidoh performed for Kenyans abroad. The singer once again led the “wantam” chants at the function, reasserting his opposition to the current government.
