“The court heard that the accused person robbed Carren Chepchumba, alias Bella Comedy, of Ksh. 30,000 in cash and a Redmi 14 Pro mobile phone valued at KSh. 26,000 during the Kutit Festival at Carnivore Gardens on 9th August 2025,” the DPP’s office reported in a statement.

It is further alleged that at about 8:00 p.m. on the same day, at Carnivore Grounds in Langata, Nairobi County, the accused assaulted Chepchumba, inflicting serious injuries to her leg, stomach, and chest.

The incident reportedly occurred while she was engaging with fellow content creators at the festival.

Koyumi, however, denied the charges before Principal Magistrate C. M. Njagi and was released on a Ksh500,000 bond. The case is set for mention on August 18, 2025.

Following the viral incident, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi denounced the assault and called on the prime suspect to turn himself in to the authorities.

“The assault on Bella Comedy… is concerning. Violence against women is unacceptable… Surrender yourself to the nearest police station,” part of the statement read.

Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot also criticised the incident, emphasising that her ministry does not tolerate any form of violence, harassment, or assault against women and girls.

She termed the act a blatant violation of the constitutional rights and freedoms, adding that the Gender Ministry had already launched investigations.

According to Eventisha, Kutiit Culture was held on August 9, 2025, at the iconic Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi.

From midday into the night, it matched bold cultural expression with a modern twist, offering what the organisers called a “cultural Xperience.”

It fused African tradition with contemporary artistry—think interactive cultural showcases by day and high-energy music, dance, and performances by some of Kenya’s hottest DJs and performers come evening.

Event branding described it as a “vibrant hub of rhythm, roots and revelry,” inviting attendees into a space where heritage meets urban creativity.
