In August 2022, Gabriel Gathuka was elected MP for Gatundu South on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
His tenure, however, has been overshadowed by legal troubles. In May 2024, he was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of boda boda rider David Nduati Wataha during a confrontation in Thika.
Kagombe pleaded not guilty and was released on Ksh 1 million cash bail, with alternative bond and surety of Ksh 2 million each. He remains free on bail as the case proceeds.
