Eric Omondi Uncovers Scam Involving Two Women Attempting to Defraud His Initiative
Kenyan comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has revealed a scam involving two women who attempted to exploit his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative for financial gain. The scheme was uncovered after a distressing video circulated online, showing a woman and her children being evicted from their home.
Moved by the situation, Omondi and his foundation called for public donations to assist the family. However, due diligence by his team raised suspicions, leading to an investigation that revealed the entire scenario was staged to defraud well-meaning Kenyans.
Omondi stated, “One of the principles of Sisi Kwa Sisi is that we do serious due diligence before, during and after a case. These individuals tried to scam Sisi Kwa Sisi lakini mungu ni nani? It is very sad that these individuals would use innocent children to try and scam Kenyans.”
The two women were apprehended at Kitengela Police Station, where it was discovered that they had already collected approximately one million Kenyan shillings from unsuspecting donors. One of the women confessed that the video was fabricated, stating, “We did the video. The man in the video is not mine; it’s someone we looked for and paid him 200 shillings. So far I have received 1 million on Mpesa. I’m asking for forgiveness from Kenyans.”
The Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative is now consulting with its supporters on how to proceed regarding the funds raised through this fraudulent appeal.
