Nairobi – Mandera senator Ali Ibrahim Roba has joined other Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders in calling for the arrest of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

In a tweet on Tuesday, August 19, Roba criticised recent remarks by Gachagua about President William Ruto.
What Gachagua threatened to tell US about Ruto
Speaking in US, the former deputy president claimed Ruto had some links to Al Shabaab and Sudan rebel groups.

He alleged that the head of state held a secret meeting with al-Shabaab operatives in Mandera county.

Speaking at an engagement forum in Olathe, Kansas City, Gachagua confirmed that he is cooperating with US authorities in the ongoing probe.

But according to Roba, Gachagua’s allegations constitute treason and that the former DP should be arrested immediatelty he lands in the country.
“Rigathi Gachagua’s acts constitute treason and demand immediate action. Rigathi Gachagua has crossed the red line. By sharing fabricated falsehoods with a foreign government to undermine the President and destabilise our country after his impeachment, he has committed nothing less than espionage and treason. This is not politics. It is betrayal of the Republic. It is a direct assault on Kenya’s sovereignty,” Roba stated.
The Mandera senator cited several provisions of the constitution, including Article 3(1), which states that every person must uphold and defend the Constitution and Article 131(1)(c), which provides that the president safeguards sovereignty and no individual may undermine it.

“Anyone who colludes with foreign powers, spreads falsehoods, or undermines Kenya’s sovereignty should face the harshest penalties under our law. Treason should never be excused. The government has to defend itself from enemies outside and within,” the Mandera senator said.

In other related news, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the return of the former deputy president poses a security threat to the country.
Speaking in Murang’a county on Tuesday, August 19, Murkomen stated that the country had been peaceful during the period Gachagua was away.
The Interior CS disclosed that security agencies are on high alert ahead of Gachagua’s scheduled return from his US trip.
According to Murkomen CS, Ruto’ administration will not tolerate any disruptions linked to Gachagua’s arrival.
Gachagua’s close allies unveiled a programme to welcome him including turning up at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, August 21.
